This wall stands along one of the busiest sections of the weekly town market. Teenagers painted the western half with a large painting of the solar system and the words “Another world is possible” while women painted a larger mural portraying women as the source of life. In the center of the mural a pregnant woman levitates uplifted between two hands within a circle of a loving female companions. She is pictured in front of a lake in order to convey the connection between water, a precious natural resource, and women, the source of human life. On either side girls sit beneath trees both reading in western clothing and weaving in traditional Mayan dress visually representing the women’s desire that their children be able to maintain traditional ways of life and succeed in the modern world. On the far edge of the mural men and women plant the seeds of the milpa, or cornfield signifying the continuation of the cycles of time through all the many changes they face as a people.
