Bringing the arts to children in need remains an enduring pillar of Trillium’s mission as it is our creativity that allows us to explore new possibilities for ourselves and our lives that lead to lasting societal change. This process speaks to the core work of breaking intergenerational cycles of poverty and violence that afflict many of our community’s children. Over the 2015 to 2016 school year artist Brenda Cleary facilitated groundbreaking Artist in Community Residence at EFAA’s homeless family shelter, Boulder Juvenile Detention Facility, Genesister Teen Pregnancy Program, Casa de Esperanza Migrant Farmworker Community and Attention Homes Foster Home among others to deliver high-quality drop-in arts enrichment and social emotional learning opportunities. Our workshops focused on creating a sense of safety, coping skills and inspiration for a better future for vulnerable children in transition.
